The Keys to Creativity

When one thinks about creativity many immediately reference contexts related to the arts or children. I talk about working as a graphic designer on a daily basis and more often than not, I usually get a response that goes something like I wish I was creative like that.

What many fail to recognize is that creativity is not about the arts. It is about invention and the action of creating something. We are all creative in one way or another. When was the last time you had a great idea for something that would make your life easier? That's creativity.

In his articleThe Keys to Creativity, Edward de Bono says there are three elements required for creativity.

1. motivation
2. thinking skills
3. lateral thinking

Without these elements, creativity stops, which might explain why so many excutives get complacent in their business. For business to survive and for people to be extraordinary we must always be inventing. We must always be creative.
